Hibridación de camarones peneidos en acuacultura

Resumen

La hibridación o cruza inter-específica puede definirse como el apareamiento entre individuos genéticamente diferenciados que pueden pertenecer a especies o incluso a géneros distintos. En algunas ocasiones y en comparación con las formas parentales de las que provienen, los híbridos presentan características superiores, el denominado vigor híbrido, tales como una mayor talla adulta, mayor tasa de crecimiento, mayor resistencia a enfermedades o mayor tolerancia a condiciones ambientales adversas. El ejemplo de hibridación más conocido es probablemente la mula, que es originada a través de la cruza de un burro macho y un caballo hembra. En acuacultura, la hibridación ha permitido la producción masiva de algunos organismos, entre los que destaca la perca híbrida listada. Este pez se obtiene al cruzar una perca blanca hembra (Morone chrysops) con una perca listada macho (M. saxatilis). La perca híbrida listada posee una mayor tasa de crecimiento y tolera un amplio intervalo de temperatura y oxígeno disuelto en el agua. Otros ejemplos de hibridación en peces son las tilapias y los bagres. Aunque esta técnica ha sido aplicada exitosamente en peces, aún no se ha explotado comercialmente en el caso de camarones peneidos. Sin embargo, la investigación científica indica que la hibridación de camarones peneidos es posible. Como ejemplo pueden citarse los primeros camarones híbridos, obtenidos al inicio de la década de los 80´s, producto de la cruza de camarón azul del océano Pacífico, Litopenaeus stylirostris, y camarón blanco del océano Atlántico, L. setiferus. En este trabajo se hace una revisión de las investigaciones anteriores y actuales sobre hibridación de camarones peneidos y se discute el potencial de esta técnica en el futuro.
